Healthy Competition, Healthy Dancers


At JB Dance Wellness, we believe competition can offer dancers so much more than trophies — it’s a powerful opportunity to build discipline, perseverance, teamwork, confidence, motivation, time management, adaptability, sportsmanship, and performance skills under pressure.

But just as important as the experience itself is the mindset with which dancers approach it. We know competition can sometimes bring unhealthy patterns such as comparison, self-doubt, jealousy, or feeling “not good enough.” That’s why we require all competition dancers — especially soloists — to attend one to two mindset coaching sessions each month.

In these sessions, dancers will:

  • Set meaningful, personal goals

  • Visualize their success and prepare mentally for performances

  • Create affirmations to rewire limiting beliefs

  • Process big emotions through journaling

  • Practice breathing techniques for calm and focus

  • Explore other somatic practices for stress relief and emotional balance

Our goal is to ensure every dancer walks into competition with confidence, resilience, and joy — and walks away with lessons and growth that last far beyond the stage.

As we launch our very first season, JB Dance Wellness is starting strong with competition solos, duos, and trios — giving dancers the chance to shine with personalized choreography, focused coaching, and maximum stage time.

Group competition routines are on the horizon! Once we’ve had a chance to get to know our dancers and form well-matched teams, we’ll bring the energy of larger groups to the stage. This approach ensures every dancer feels confident, prepared, and ready to perform at their very best.
